The Castell de Bellver is one of Palma’s most famous
The Castell de Bellver is one of Palma’s most famous sights and stands on a wooded hill about three kilometres west of the city centre. Built in the 14th century, the fortress is renowned for its rare circular architecture and offers one of the most stunning panoramic views over Palma Bay, the harbour and the old town with the Cathedral La Seu. The name “Bellver” translates to “beautiful view” – and that’s exactly what awaits visitors walking along the castle’s ramparts. Even the path through the surrounding pine forest leading up to the castle is an experience in itself, making Bellver a favourite destination for both culture and nature lovers.
Culture, history and breathtaking views
Inside, visitors will find a harmonious courtyard surrounded by elegant arcades on two levels. Today, it houses the city’s History Museum, which tells the story of Palma through exhibits and scale models. Over the centuries, the castle has served as a royal residence and later as a prison – a history that still shapes its unique atmosphere. Those who climb up to the ramparts are rewarded with one of the finest views over Palma. Around the fortress, walking paths shaded by pine trees invite you to take a peaceful break.
Parking at Castell de Bellver
As Castell de Bellver lies slightly outside the city centre, arriving by car is actually quite convenient. There is a car park for about 30 vehicles directly at the castle, and you can also park along the road leading up to it. There are plenty of parking options available – and the best part is, they’re all free.
