Modern art with sea views
Es Baluard is one of the most important museums for contemporary art on Mallorca. It is located in a former bastion of Palma’s historic city walls and impressively combines centuries-old architecture with modern art. Its elevated position above the Paseo Marítimo alone makes a visit worthwhile: from the terraces, you can enjoy fantastic views of the Bay of Palma, the harbor, and the cathedral.
The museum opened in 2004 and features an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art with a strong connection to the Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean region. The permanent exhibition is complemented by changing temporary exhibitions by international artists.
Art, architecture and a relaxed atmosphere
Inside, visitors can expect a successful blend of open exhibition spaces, historic walls, and modern elements made of glass and concrete. The exhibitions are clearly laid out and are also appealing to visitors who may not usually have much contact with modern art.
After your tour, the café with terrace invites you to linger – perfect for a break during your walk through the city. Es Baluard can easily be combined with a stroll through the old town or along the city walls and is also an ideal alternative on bad-weather days.
Parking at Es Baluard Museum
If you are arriving by car, there are several public underground car parks nearby, such as Parking El Corte Inglés Jaume III, Parking Passeig de Mallorca, and Parking Carrer Contramoll Mollet 1. The latter is the closest option to the museum.
