What are the Avenidas or Avingudes in Palma?
Basically, Avenida (Spanish) or Avinguda (Catalan) means avenue or wide street in English and is part of many street names.

When it comes to road traffic in and around Palma, people often refer to “the Avenidas” or “the Avingudes”. This usually means the inner city ring road, which surrounds Palma’s historic old town in a semi-circular shape.
This ring consists of several Avenidas/Avingudes that flow into one another and form major arterial roads. These include:
- Avinguda de Gabriel Alomar
- Avinguda d'Alexandre Rosselló
- Avinguda del Comte de Sallent
- Avinguda d'Alemanya
- Avinguda de Portugal
Together with the Passeig de Mallorca, they form one of the city’s main traffic arteries.
Along the Avenidas you will find numerous shops, cafés, and department stores, as well as several parking facilities and underground car parks, including:
- Parking Avinguda de Gabriel Alomar
- Aparcament Avingudes
- Parking El Corte Inglés Alexandre Rosselló
- Parking Plaça d'Espanya
- Parking Comte Sallent
- Parking Passeig de Mallorca
You can see exactly where each car park is located on the overview map.
Good to know:The inner city ring road marks the boundary of Palma’s low emission zone. If you do not have the required environmental sticker, you can conveniently park your car in one of the aforementioned car parks and explore the old town on foot. This also helps you avoid accidentally entering one of the ACIRE zones.
By the way, the Avenidas/Avingudes follow the route of Palma’s former city walls, which were demolished at the end of the 19th century.
