Low Emission Zone in Palma
The Low Emission Zone in Palma de Mallorca (Zona de Bajas Emisiones – ZBE) aims to improve air quality, reduce car traffic in the city centre, and make the old town more liveable for residents and visitors.

It covers the entire area of the old town and is bordered by the Avenidas (inner city ring road) and the Paseo Marítimo.
Only vehicles that meet environmental requirements and have the appropriate classification are permitted to enter this area.
However, there is one exception: parking in public parking garages within the low emission zone.
Classifications
The classification according to pollutant classes is stored for every vehicle registered in Spain with the traffic authority DGT, i.e., it does not have to be registered separately. You can check the pollutant class of your vehicle here.
Currently, only vehicles with the following classes or environmental stickers are allowed to enter the low emission zone:
0 Emisiones – blue environmental sticker
Electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids (range > 40 km), fuel cell vehicles
ECO – green-blue environmental sticker
Electric vehicles, hybrids / plug-in hybrids (range < 40 km), vehicles powered by natural gas, LPG or autogas
It is already planned that from 2027 access for B (yellow) will no longer be permitted. From 2030, C (green) will also have to stay outside.
Environmental sticker on the car
Depending on the emission class, you can attach an environmental sticker to your car. In Palma, however, this is not required or mandatory, as enforcement is carried out via the licence plate.
If you drive to other places on the island that have a low emission zone (e.g. Calvià) but no automatic monitoring, the sticker must be visibly affixed to the windscreen. Incidentally, the environmental sticker is valid throughout Spain and for the entire life of the car – it does not need to be renewed annually.
Rental cars
If you have booked a rental car in Mallorca, it will usually have an environmental sticker, meaning you can enter the low emission zone without any problems.
Foreign vehicles or licence plates
Access control generally only considers licence plates registered in Spain. Even if your vehicle has an equivalent foreign environmental badge, access is currently not permitted and will be fined.
However, you can obtain for a special permit for up to 6 months from the Palma city administration.
ACIRE zones
Although the ACIRE zones are located within the low emission zone, they may only be entered by authorised vehicles (generally residents, delivery vehicles, etc.). Possession of an emissions sticker does not entitle you to enter ACIRE zones. A special permit is required.
Fine
Access to the low emission zone is monitored around the clock at 16 locations. Cameras automatically record the licence plates of all vehicles.
Unauthorised entry results in a fine of €200 (€100 if paid immediately) – even if you entered the zone accidentally or “only briefly”.
Hotels in the low emission zone
If your hotel is located within the low emission zone, but your car is not registered in Spain or does not meet the environmental requirements, the hotel can register you with the city administration. You are then allowed to enter the low emission zone for loading and unloading – however, your vehicle may not be parked on the streets within the zone. If your hotel has its own parking facilities, you can of course use them. Otherwise, simply choose one of the underground car parks for...
Parking in the low emission zone
Even if your vehicle does not have an environmental sticker or is registered in another country, you are allowed to park in the public underground car parks within the low emission zone. However, you must use the designated access roads.

On the map you will find the access routes to the following underground car parks within the low emission zone:
- AParking El Corte Inglés Jaume III
- BParking Via Roma
- CParking Patines
- DAparcament de la Plaça Major
- EAparcament del Mercat de l’Olivar
- FParking Comtat del Rosselló
- GParking Saba sa Gerreria
The street names of the entrances are also shown there. Finding your way out is up to you, though 😉
When entering and exiting, you can follow the directional signs marked with the corresponding symbol (car with emissions).
And be careful: one wrong turn will inevitably turn into an expensive mistake.
