Parking a motorcycle or scooter in Palma
On a motorcycle or scooter you're more flexible in Palma than by car – including when it comes to parking. Here you'll find out where you can leave your two-wheeler, where it costs anything and what to watch out for.
Where can I park my two-wheeler?
As a rule, you can park your motorcycle or scooter in normal public parking areas, as long as parking is allowed there and you don't obstruct other vehicles. Always check the colour of the parking markings.
Yellow MOTOS bays
In many places you'll find yellow-marked areas labelled “MOTOS” or with a motorcycle symbol. They are reserved exclusively for motorcycles and scooters, and they're free. You don't have to use one, as long as you park correctly elsewhere – but if one is free, it's usually the easiest option.
ORA zone: two-wheelers don't need a ticket
In the chargeable ORA zones (marked in blue), two-wheeled motorcycles and scooters are exempt from the ticket requirement – so you don't need to buy a parking ticket. Do check the signs, though: in certain special or high-turnover zones the rules can differ. When in doubt, the sign on the spot applies.
Underground car parks and parking garages
You can also leave your motorcycle in an underground car park or parking garage – which can make sense overnight or for several days. Some operators have dedicated motorcycle spaces and sometimes separate, cheaper rates.
ACIRE: access allowed for motorcycles
In the restricted-traffic ACIRE zones of the Old Town, normally only vehicles with the relevant permit may enter – motorcycles are exempt. Where you may actually park within the zone, however, depends on the markings and signs on the spot.
Where parking is not allowed
Parking on pavements, pedestrian squares and public green spaces is not allowed – unless a parking zone for motorcycles is explicitly marked there. Park there anyway and you risk a fine and possibly being towed. And the ORA wardens are out across Palma all day long 😉
