Parking markings in Palma – What do the colours mean?

If you’re driving in Palma, you should know the meaning of the coloured lines on streets and in parking areas – they indicate whether, and for how long, you’re allowed to park.
Here’s an overview:

- Yellow lines mean: No parking allowed. Parking here can result in a fine or even towing. Yellow markings are typically used for garage entrances, disabled parking spaces or loading zones.
- Orange lines mark reserved spaces, for example for delivery vehicles or authorities. These are usually not open to the public.
- Green zones are residents-only areas. Tourists may park here only in rare cases – usually for higher fees and shorter time limits.
- Blue zones (ORA zones) indicate paid parking with a time limit. Duration and rates are clearly displayed on signs – and a valid parking ticket is required.
- White lines or no markings usually mean free parking, provided no sign states otherwise. These spaces, however, are rare and fill up quickly.
Always watch out for additional signs – they take precedence over the colour markings.
Speaking of signs: Before turning into a side street, you should look out for ACIRE signs in Palma – otherwise it could quickly become expensive! Here's what ACIRE is all about.
Alternating-side parking – what does it mean?
In some side streets, the allowed parking side changes halfway through the month. This system creates space for street cleaning. Signs indicate when the rule applies (e.g. “Prohibido aparcar del 1 al 15”). Always check which side of the street you’re parking on when you arrive.
